Juneteenth (a combination of "June" and "nineteenth") is an annual celebration of the abolishment of people enslaved in the United States.
Even though this celebration isn't taught in all schools, it is celebrated in almost every state. So take the time to teach your children and celebrate. If you are unfamiliar with Juneteenth, watch this video and discuss it. For more details, click on this link provided by the Smithsonian.

As we develop the 2023 Kids Count in Michigan Data Book, we want to make sure to listen to the voices of those who matter most in our work: kids!
